History

The Community Development Unit (CDU) has been in existence for 30 years. It was established in 1984 as part of the Centre for Continuing Education of the University of Port Elizabeth with the aim of outreach and capacity-building of community based organisations and NGO’s within disadvantaged and marginalised communities. In 2000 it was moved to the Faculty of Health until the end of the merger process in 2005 when it became part of the formal structure of the Engagement Office.
